Who Should The Dolphins Take?

With the 2021 NFL draft underway, the Miami Dolphins are in a good position to add these certain parts that they are currently missing. The Dolphins are nearing the end of their rebuild, as they have two picks in the first round, with the possibility of even more movement as draft night approaches.

Who should Miami draft with their first pick? This one may be a little obvious but if still available the Dolphins should 100% get their hands on wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase from LSU. Chase is the best receiver in the draft and could be that number one receiver for Tua Tagovailoa, also adding to create a dangerous receiving unit along with Mike Gesicki, Will Fuller, DeVante Parker, and Preston Williams. Chase has unbelievable speed, and remarkable size as well as a certain grit that will be a beautiful addition to the Dolphins.

The next player I would suggest Miami to take is Tight End, Kyle Pitts, I don't think he would be available for the sixth pick, he should be taken by then but if he is available I would say he's a fantastic pick for Miami to take. Pitts is the definition of an athlete, I believe Tua would want to play with Pitts more than any other player in the draft. With a structure of 6’5” while being quick on his feet making him a big threat to defenders. I also want to bring up Micah Parsons because there is a possibility that both Chase and Pitts are taken at this point, so in this case, I would have my eye on Line Backer Micah Parsons. Obviously, you can argue other picks that could also work in this position, but let me tell you why Parsons is a good pick. At the beginning of this past season, Parson’s was a projected top-five pick, whose stock has slowly dropped from off-the-field concerns. But apart from that, he can easily be a starter, he has great vision on defense, his defensive playmaking is top-notch which will help this defense evolve. Wide Receiver Devonta Smith was another pick I wanted to bring up as a possible pick for Miami, but the other players I named earlier are picks I believe would fit better with the Dolphins.

Now I want to talk about our second pick in the first draft, and who the Dolphins should think about taking. Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is actually my favorite LineBacker in the draft, although questions come up about his size, his athleticism trumps his size, knowing he can easily bulk up with the right trainers and dietitians. Zach Thomas was another smaller linebacker that was very successful under the Miami organization. You know when Owusu-Koramoah is on the field, his athleticism and speed are explosive and dominant. He is very versatile making it easy to put him anywhere on the field. I think his potential could be great in Brian Flores's system.

Another player that the Dolphins should really consider if still available for their second pick is EDGE Kwity Paye. The one thing about Paye that others don't have is he has a lot of potential, a lot of room for growth, considering he is athletic enough to triumph at this position. Paye had a very strong pro-day performance and seems to be between the 10-20 range in all mock drafts.

Whatever happens during their first decision is going to be a big say on what happens during the 18th pick. I would think they would go the wide receiver/tight end route for their first pick and go the defensive route for their 18th pick. These are my preferences on what Miami should do in the position they are in, but clearly unexpected picks are bound to happen, its draft night! Overall, I have a good feeling about this season for the Dolphins (let’s act like I haven't been saying that for the past five years) and I am so excited for the NFL season to start back up again. Who do you think Miami should take?
